Temporary fix for the Firefox “addon disabled” debacle

As you may be aware, there’s an issue with the Firefox addon verification process which disables your addons. The bug is currently being worked on but if you are like me and don’t want to wait around you can fix it manually. I found the fix here:

https://www.ghacks.net/2019/05/04/your-firefox-extensions-are-all-disabled-thats-a-bug/

But for those of you who need a bit more info, here’s a step-by-step how to for Mac.

Step 1. Close Firefox

Step 2. Click anywhere on the Desktop so you get the Finder top menu bar. Your Library is not displayed by default so hold down “alt” and then go to:

Go > Library

Step 3. Inside the Library folder go to:

Application Support > Firefox

Step 4. Scroll down to “extensions.json”, right click and choose “Open with TextEdit”.

Step 5. Using the “Find and Replace” option in the Edit menu, replace all instances of

“appDisabled”:true

with

“appDisabled”:false

Step 6. Using the “Find and Replace” option in the Edit menu, replace all instances of

“signedState”:-1

with

“signedState”:2

Step 7. Save and close “extensions.json”.

Step 8. Start Firefox, and go to your Add-ons (in the Tools menu). You need to disable and then enable them again to get them working. I would then restart Firefox again (just for good measure).

UPDATE… You can now go to this LINK to find the correct extension to sort out your add-ons. Hooray!!
