Mac and OS X Home and Index

NOTE:  If you are looking for the Mac/OS X post index, please go straight to the bottom of the page.

When my last laptop started playing up I decided to take the plunge and get a Mac.  It is a LOT more money to pay, but after a lot of research and detailed pro/con lists, it seemed that Macs had more to offer.

I am not one of those people who thinks that Apple can do no wrong.  In fact, I really dislike the iPhone and am pretty disappointed by the way Apple handled the Samsung affair (i.e. that although pretty much all the other mobile phone brand companies have a similar phone to the iPhone, Samsung was sued because they knocked the iPhone down from No.1 on the top seller list.  It seems like a pretty daft move along a rather dubious path, seeing as Samsung makes parts for the iPhone.  And so does Sony.  ANYWAY.)  This ongoing Apple/Android war seems silly but has made some great pictures (I did not make any of these but hats off to whoever did spend the time making them):

And my own personal favourite:

(And yes, of course involving Final Fantasy AND Star Wars makes better.)

But that doesn’t mean I’m against Apple or Apple products.  I love my Macbook Pro and it is definitely the best computer I’ve owned so far (let’s allow for future possibilities).  Bask in the shiny wonder…..

I also have a 1st generation iPod Nano (although I didn’t actually buy it – present) which I have taken with me everywhere for the past 6 years.  And it has been fantastic.

After using my Macbook Pro for just over a year I still stand by my first judgement.  It definitely has been consistently better than any of my other laptops and OS X is much cleaner and easier to control than Windows (and I have used 3.1, 95, 98, XP and Vista so I’ve had my fair share of WIndoze headaches).  Plus I have not had a single virus problem.  Hooray!

It hasn’t been a completely smooth change though.  There are lots of things to learn and unlearn when moving from Windows (I downgraded from Windows Vista to XP as Vista was probably the worst OS I’ve ever used including Acorn on my crappy Primary School desktop) to OS X (currently running Snow Leopard – 10.6.8).  So I wrote a few posts about things I’ve found and good software which is Mac compatible.
